Landbot Freemium

Conversational chatbot builder with drag-and-drop flows and WhatsApp support

Landbot is a visual chatbot builder where you connect blocks in a flowchart instead of writing code, and deploy the result to your website, WhatsApp or Messenger. The free tier caps at 100 chats per month; paid plans start around $40 monthly.

What is Landbot?

Barcelona-based, founded in 2017, originally as a WhatsApp bot tool before WhatsApp Business APIs were common. The product idea is rule-based conversation first, AI second. You design the conversation tree by hand, and Landbot’s AI features fill in around it — intent detection for free-text replies, AI-generated variations, and a handoff to a language model when the flow dead-ends.

That design choice is the point. Rule-based flows don’t hallucinate. A booking bot that must ask three questions in order will ask them, every time.

Product Features

  • Visual flow editor with drag-and-drop blocks for questions, conditions, payments and webhooks.
  • Native WhatsApp integration including template messages, which most competitors bolt on badly.
  • Embed options: full-page chat, pop-up widget, or inline in a landing page.
  • CRM and Sheets sync for pushing captured leads to HubSpot, Salesforce or Google Sheets.
  • Stripe payments inside a chat flow, so a bot can collect a deposit without leaving the conversation.
  • AI Assist to rewrite copy and handle off-script questions.

Does Landbot have a free plan?

Yes, but it’s tight: 100 chats per month, one bot, Landbot branding, no WhatsApp. Starter is around $40/month for 500 chats, WhatsApp Pro around $100/month, and Business $400/month with 2,500 chats. Annual billing knocks roughly 20% off.

A “chat” here means a completed conversation, not a message. So a 6-message exchange counts as one chat. That’s more generous than it first looks.

Where Landbot gets frustrating

Long flows become visually unmanageable past about 60 blocks — the canvas turns into spaghetti and there’s no built-in version diffing for flows. Also, the AI layer is noticeably weaker than a pure LLM bot: if your use case is “answer questions from a 500-page manual,” Landbot is the wrong tool. Look at CustomGPT or Chatbase instead.

Use Cases

  • Lead qualification forms that feel like a conversation instead of a 12-field grid.
  • Restaurant or clinic bookings on WhatsApp, confirming slot and collecting details.
  • Order status lookups that branch on tracking number input.
  • Quiz and product-recommendation funnels for e-commerce.
  • Internal onboarding checklists delivered as a chat flow.

Quick Summary

  • Landbot is a drag-and-drop chatbot builder for web, WhatsApp and Messenger, founded in Barcelona in 2017.
  • Free plan: 100 chats/month. Paid: from about $40/month for 500 chats.
  • Rule-based flows are reliable for structured tasks; AI features are secondary.
  • Not suited to open-ended document Q&A — use a RAG tool for that.
