How to Evaluate and Ship Agents with OpenAI AgentKit Evals
Shipping an agent without evals is guesswork. Here is how to define test cases, grade output, and use AgentKit evals to catch regressions.
OpenAI's AgentKit packages agent building, evaluation, and deployment into one stack.
OpenAI AgentKit is a set of developer tools for building AI agents on OpenAI’s platform — it combines a visual Agent Builder, the ChatKit front-end kit, and built-in evaluation for scoring agent runs. It uses the same API key and billing as the rest of the OpenAI platform.
AgentKit is OpenAI’s answer to the “agents need too much glue code” problem. Instead of wiring a model, tools, memory and a chat UI by hand, you get three connected pieces: Agent Builder for assembling logic visually, ChatKit for dropping a working chat interface into your app, and evals for running graders against real traffic.
It sits on top of the Assistants-style API and the Responses API, so anything you build still bills through your existing OpenAI usage. There is no separate subscription — you pay tokens.
Product teams already paying OpenAI who want a working agent shipped this quarter — especially if a front-end dev can use ChatKit. It is a weaker fit for teams that need self-hosting, since nothing here runs on your own infrastructure.
