OpenAI Operator Paid

OpenAI's browser agent that clicks, types and fills forms for you

OpenAI Operator is an agent that controls its own cloud browser to carry out web tasks: clicking buttons, typing, scrolling and filling forms. It launched in January 2025 for ChatGPT Pro subscribers at $200 per month, powered by a model OpenAI calls CUA, short for Computer-Using Agent.

What is OpenAI Operator?

Operator is not a chatbot plugin. It opens a remote Chrome session, takes screenshots of the page, and decides what to click or type next based on what it sees. That loop lets it work on sites with no API, which is the whole point.

The underlying CUA model combines GPT-4o’s vision with reinforcement learning on interface interactions. OpenAI trained it on screen recordings and browser traces rather than scraping site markup, so it generalises to unfamiliar layouts better than selector-based automation.

What can Operator do?

  • Its own browser. A dedicated window showing every action it takes.
  • Takeover mode. You can take the keyboard mid-task for passwords or payment details.
  • Saved workflows. Reusable task templates you can rerun later.
  • Parallel tasks. Multiple Operator sessions can run at once.
  • Site restrictions. It declines logins on some sensitive sites and blocks financial transactions by default.
  • Confirmation prompts. Asks before irreversible actions such as submitting an order.

How much does Operator cost?

  • ChatGPT Pro. $200 per month was the original requirement at launch.
  • Wider rollout. Operator later moved into ChatGPT’s agent mode for lower tiers, with lower limits.
  • Usage caps. Task limits apply per month depending on plan and model choice.

Who should use Operator?

It is interesting for repetitive browser work with no API: filling the same procurement portal, booking routine appointments, checking a supplier’s site for stock. Watching it pause and ask for a password is oddly reassuring.

It is also slow and expensive. A task a human finishes in 30 seconds can take several minutes, and error rates climb on complex multi-step flows like airline booking with dynamic pricing. The $200 entry tier put it out of reach for casual users at launch, and many sites actively block agent traffic.

Use Cases

  • Filling repetitive web forms across portals
  • Booking reservations and appointments
  • Checking stock and prices on supplier sites
  • Compiling data from sites without an API
  • Running saved recurring browser workflows

Quick Summary

  • Operator is OpenAI’s browser agent, launched January 2025 for ChatGPT Pro.
  • It uses the CUA model to see and click on pages with no API.
  • Original access required the $200 per month Pro plan.
  • Tasks are slow, and error rates rise on complex booking flows.
  • Best for repetitive no-API browser chores, not complex transactions.
