Typeform Freemium

Form builder with AI-generated surveys, follow-up questions and response analysis, free with 10 responses

Typeform is a one-question-at-a-time form builder, and its AI generates a full survey from a sentence, adds adaptive follow-up questions and summarizes open-ended answers into themes. The free plan includes 10 responses per month; Basic is $25/month billed monthly, Business $50.

What is Typeform’s AI?

Three features, one button each. Form generation takes a prompt like “customer satisfaction survey for a coffee subscription” and returns 8–12 questions with answer types already chosen. AI follow-ups branch on a respondent’s earlier answer, so someone who rates you 2/10 gets asked a different question than someone who rates you 9/10. Response analysis groups free-text answers into themes with counts, which is the piece most people buy it for.

Typeform’s real differentiator was never the AI. It was the format — one question per screen, which lifts completion rates on mobile compared with a single dense page, and looks better than a Google Form when it lands in a customer’s inbox.

Product Features

  • AI form generation — prompt to draft survey. Fast starting point, always needs editing for wording.
  • Adaptive follow-ups — conditional questions generated on the fly. Allowed only on paid plans.
  • Response insights — clusters open-text answers and gives a short summary with sentiment. Handles a few hundred responses well.
  • Logic and branching — classic skip logic, scoring, and redirects based on answers.
  • Integrations — native connect to Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Sheets and Zapier.
  • Payments — Stripe and PayPal collection inside the form, useful for event registration.

Product Highlights

  • Design and mobile experience remain the best among form builders.
  • Question-level analytics (drop-off per screen) are easy to read without a BI tool.
  • Adaptive follow-ups get richer answers than static forms on open-ended questions.

What are Typeform’s limits?

The response cap is the thing that bites. Free gives you 10 responses total per month — enough to test, not to survey. Basic at $25/month allows 100. Business at $50 allows 1,000. A 500-person employee survey therefore needs Business, and a 2,000-person NPS run pushes you into a custom quote.

Pricing complaints are common and fair: $25 a month for 100 responses is expensive next to Tally or Fillout, which offer similar logic on more generous free tiers. Where Typeform still earns it is brand-facing surveys where the respondent experience matters — a customer NPS, an application form, a lead magnet. Internal forms should probably be elsewhere. AI output also needs editing: generated questions skew leading, and the response summarizer struggles past roughly 500 open-text answers.

Use Cases

  1. Customer NPS or product feedback surveys embedded on a marketing site.
  2. Job application forms with branching by role type and payment for deposits.
  3. Post-event feedback with adaptive follow-ups on low ratings.
  4. Lead qualification forms that route to the right sales rep.
  5. Summarizing 300 open-text responses into six themes before a product review.

Quick Summary

  • Typeform is a conversational form builder with AI form generation, adaptive follow-ups and response analysis.
  • Free: 10 responses/month. Basic $25 (100 responses), Business $50 (1,000 responses).
  • Strongest for customer-facing surveys where design and completion rate matter.
  • Expensive per response compared to Tally or Fillout for internal use.
  • AI-drafted questions are a starting point, not a finished survey.
