How to Enrich Company Data With Clearbit in 10 Minutes
Clearbit is a data enrichment API that takes a small input — a domain, an email, or an IP — and returns structured company information: name, logo, employees, industry, tech stack, and social links.
It is the tool behind a lot of “we already knew your company” moments in signup forms and sales tools. Here is how to make your first call and what to expect from coverage.
What does Clearbit return?
Its core endpoint is Company Lookup. Send a domain and you get back firmographic fields. There is also Person lookup for an email, and a Logo API that returns a company logo by domain. The Clearbit data feeds tools like HubSpot, Salesforce and many routing systems. Note that Clearbit is now part of HubSpot, and the free Logo API is being folded into HubSpot’s branding endpoints, so verify the current endpoint before you build on it.
How do I run my first lookup?
- Create an account and grab an API key from the dashboard.
- Call the Company endpoint with a domain.
- Read the JSON: name, metrics.employees, category.industry, tech, and location.
curl https://company.clearbit.com/v2/companies/find?domain=stripe.com \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"
The response is JSON, so you can map fields straight into your CRM or a personalization block on a landing page.
What is the Logo API and is it free?
The Logo API serves a company logo image by domain — useful for showing a visitor’s brand without storing assets.

This endpoint has historically been free with attribution. Given the HubSpot acquisition, treat free access as subject to change and check terms before relying on it in production. The enrichment endpoints are paid, priced on lookups or via a monthly plan; volume discounts apply at scale.
How do I use Clearbit for signup personalization?
The classic pattern: as a user types their work email, you call Clearbit in the background, then greet them with their company name and logo on the next screen. It cuts friction and makes the product feel tailored. Implement it server-side to keep your API key off the client, and cache results — the same domain should not be looked up twice.
Where does Clearbit fall short?
Small and new companies are the blind spot. A 6-person startup founded last year often returns no data, so your personalization silently shows a fallback. Coverage skews to established businesses. Also, enrichment data can be months stale for fast-moving fields like employee count, so do not treat headcount as real-time. And every lookup is a cost — cache aggressively or your bill grows with traffic.
Best for: B2B signup flows and CRM enrichment where company data drives the experience. Not for: consumer apps, or anything depending on brand-new companies.
Quick Summary
- Clearbit enriches a domain, email or IP into structured company data via API.
- Company lookup returns firmographics; the Logo API serves logos by domain.
- Cache lookups and run enrichment server-side to protect keys and cut cost.
- Weak on small/new companies; owned by HubSpot, so verify current endpoints and pricing.
