Fast open-model inference, fine-tuning and GPU clusters in one API
Together AI is a cloud platform that serves more than 200 open-source models โ Llama, DeepSeek, Qwen, Mistral โ through one OpenAI-compatible API, with fine-tuning and dedicated GPU clusters on top.
Together AI, founded in 2022 by researchers from Stanford and Google Brain-adjacent circles, does inference, training and GPU rental under one roof. Because the endpoint mimics OpenAI’s format, you usually switch providers by changing a base URL and a model name.
For teams that want open weights without running a cluster, this is one of the few places that offers inference, fine-tuning and training compute in a single account. Latency on popular small models is competitive with the big closed APIs.
The catch is that you are on shared capacity unless you pay for a dedicated endpoint, so peak-hour throughput can wobble. If your product needs hard SLAs, budget for reserved capacity.
Strong fit for startups that want to ship on open models and control cost per token, and for researchers who need training compute without a procurement fight. Less useful if you only ever call one flagship closed model and value simplicity over price.
Inference is pay-per-token and generally cheaper than frontier closed models. Fine-tuning and GPU clusters are billed separately by the hour. New accounts typically get a few dollars of free credit to test.
