Tripo AI Freemium

Text and image to 3D model generator that exports clean meshes in under a minute

Tripo AI is a 3D generation tool from VAST that turns a text prompt or a single image into a 3D mesh, usually in 30 to 60 seconds. It exports to GLB, OBJ, FBX and STL, and there is a free tier with monthly generation credits.

What is Tripo AI best at?

Speed and topology. Most 3D-from-image tools give you a blob. Tripo returns a mesh with a reasonable quad flow and separate materials, which matters if the model is going into a game or a product render rather than a novelty preview.

VAST released Tripo 2.0 and later Tripo 3.0, which pushed detail density and texture quality up. The web app runs in a browser, and there is a public API for teams that want to batch-generate assets.

Product Features

  • Image to 3D — upload a front-facing photo or a styled concept and get a full model, including inferred back sides.
  • Text to 3D — prompt like worn leather boot, low poly, and pick a style preset.
  • Auto retopology that reduces triangle count for real-time use.
  • PBR texturing with albedo, normal and roughness maps baked in.
  • Exports in GLB, USDZ, OBJ, FBX and STL; USDZ works with AR Quick Look on iOS.
  • API access for automated pipelines, priced per generation.

Product Highlights

Rigging is the feature that surprises people. Tripo can auto-rig a humanoid or quadruped mesh with a standard skeleton, which saves hours if you are populating a scene with background characters. It is not production-grade rigging, but it is a real starting point.

Where it struggles: hard-surface mechanical parts with many thin elements come out mushy, and text on models is basically unreadable. Thin geometry like wires and chains often merges into a single mass. Organic shapes do far better than engineered ones.

Pricing runs on a credit system. The free plan gives a small monthly allowance; paid plans start around $15–20 per month and scale with credits. Commercial rights depend on your plan tier, so check before shipping client work.

Use Cases

  • Game jams where you need 20 props by tomorrow.
  • Product mockups placing a designed object in a room render.
  • AR try-on experiences using USDZ exports.
  • Concept artists turning sketches into turntables for review.
  • Indie studios filling background assets without a modeler.

Quick Summary

  • Tripo AI generates 3D meshes from text or a single image in about a minute.
  • It exports GLB, OBJ, FBX, STL and USDZ, with optional auto-rigging.
  • Free tier available; paid credit plans start near $15 per month.
  • Strong on organic shapes, weak on thin mechanical detail and in-model text.
  • Best for game and AR asset work, not precision CAD.
