Dia Browser Free

The Browser Company's AI-first browser that chats with your open tabs

Dia Browser is a free AI-first browser built by The Browser Company that can read your open tabs and answer questions about them in a side chat. You download it for macOS or Windows, and it ships with its own model access instead of asking you for an API key.

What is Dia Browser?

Dia is The Browser Company’s follow-up to Arc. Where Arc experimented with a new tab model, Dia puts a chatbot at the center. The assistant sits in a sidebar and can pull text from whatever tabs you have open, so “compare these three articles” is a real command, not a marketing line. The company started rolling Dia out to general availability in 2025 and dropped the early waitlist for most users through 2026.

It runs on macOS and, since late 2025, Windows. There is no Linux build as of early 2026, and no mobile app beyond the shared-tab handoff feature.

Product Features

  • Tab-aware chat: the assistant reads the pages you have open, including PDFs loaded in the browser, and cites which tab an answer came from.
  • Skills shortcuts: type a custom “skill” like “summarize this in five bullets” and reuse it across any page.
  • Write and rewrite inline: draft emails or posts in a text box and have Dia edit tone without leaving the page.
  • Natural language URL bar: typing a sentence can trigger an action instead of a search.
  • Built-in model routing: Dia uses its own backend models, so there is no key to manage or per-call billing.

Product Highlights

The tab-reading is the part that actually feels different. Chrome extensions can see one page; Dia sees your whole session. That makes multi-source questions genuinely useful.

Setup is the other win. You install it and start chatting. No keys, no config files, no extension store hunting. For people who bounced off Arc’s learning curve, Dia is closer to a normal browser with a smart sidebar bolted on.

The catch: you are trusting a young browser with your whole session, and the free tier’s model access is whatever The Browser Company pays for. It is not a place to run your heaviest reasoning tasks.

Use Cases

  • Comparing prices across four shopping tabs and asking which is cheapest after shipping.
  • Summarizing a long PDF report you opened in the browser for a meeting later that day.
  • Drafting a reply to a webmail thread while the original message stays open.
  • Researching a topic across ten tabs and asking Dia to pull the key claims into one list.
  • Rewriting your own blog draft in a CMS tab without switching to a separate writing app.

How much does Dia Browser cost?

Dia is free to download. The Browser Company has signaled premium tiers with heavier model usage for later, but as of early 2026 the core browser and chat are free. There is no published per-message cap that most users will hit.

Quick Summary

  • Dia Browser is a free AI-first browser from The Browser Company, makers of Arc.
  • Its main trick is reading all your open tabs, not just the current page.
  • It runs on macOS and Windows; there is no Linux or standalone mobile app.
  • Best for people who live in browser tabs all day; skip it if you need Linux support or heavy local control.
  • It is free, with premium model tiers hinted but not required for normal use.
